Good Personal Hygiene Tips for Children

Kids are generally exploratory and playful and they indulge in various activities and behaviors. Thus, they tend to get dirty and if they have poor hygiene, they become susceptible to infections. This is the reason why parents need to use good personal hygiene tips for their children to prevent them from falling ill. Let us examine some of the tips to teach children good hygiene.

Good personal hygiene tips for children:

  • Hand-washing: Make it a habit for your kids to wash their hands after they use the restroom, before and after snack times and meal times; also after returning from school or from outside. Purchase special soaps for your kids with fun shapes and bright colors in order to attract them to cleansing their hands. Teach your kids to clean their nails and wash with warm soapy water for about 30 seconds. Make it a funtime by singing a song while washing hands.
  • Bathing: Make bathing a fun-time and teach your kids about basic cleaning habits while they are playing with soap. Make sure that your kid makes it a habit of cleaning specific areas such as feet, arm pits, genital areas, etc. Use special soaps for your kids as mentioned above and add bubbles and water toys to make bathing time more fun.
  • Oral hygiene: Include good oral hygiene habits for your kids. Purchase special child toothbrushes and toothpastes for him/her. This may attract them to brush their teeth. Make sure that your kids use proper brushing techniques to clean their teeth or you can ask your dentist to help your kid to learn proper techniques of brushing and flossing. Ensure that your kid uses a pea-sized amount of toothpaste and brushes at least twice daily; once before going to bed, rinses the mouth thoroughly and flosses regularly. Make brushing and flossing more like a fun activity by singing a song or a chant. It wouldn’t hurt to add children’s mouthwash to the routine. Check with your child’s dentist if you have any concerns and/or questions.
  • Hair hygiene: In addition to the above hygiene habits, make washing, rinsing and combing the hair as one of your kid’s habits. Teach them through an activity about how to shampoo their hair, thoroughly rinse the hair, and comb the hair. Use tear friendly shampoos for your kids and wide-toothed combs.
  • Clean clothing: This is also important because most kids love to wear the clothes which feature their favorite hero or toy over and over again. Teach them that maintaining good hygiene by cleaning their body is as important as wearing clean clothes.

These personal hygiene measures should be taught at the earliest possible time as your toddler grows. These become their (personal hygiene) habits, thus it is important that you teachgood hygiene tips to yourchild(ren).
