First aid

  • Firstly, cool the burnt area by placing it under cool running water. You can either keep the burnt skin under running water or damp it with cold soaked wash cloth until the pain subsides. It helps to decrease the burnt temperature.
  • Next, remove the clothing if present from the burnt area by cutting it. If the cloth is stuck to the burnt skin (which mainly occurs during third or second degree burn) leave it off and immediately consult a doctor. If the burn injury is due to the chemical, then make sure not to spread it around the skin. Remove the clothing when you place you child’s skin under running water.
  • If blisters are formed on the burnt skin, then make sure not to break them.
  • After cooling the burnt skin, apply an ointment which is specifically used for burns. On can also use home remedies for burns for your child to relief from pain.
  • Later, immediately consult a doctor as soon as possible.
  • If your kid’s eyes get burnt, then flush them continuously with water. If he/she is wearing contact lenses, then remove them and immediately consult a doctor.

Note: The most important point to remember while doing a first aid for burns is to cool the burnt skin properly under chilled or cool running water under the pain subsides. Because this helps to reduce the skin damage along with underlying tissue damage.
