How To Handle A Clinging Child

Raising a child between the ages of 18 months to 3 years is the most difficult stage for parents. You feel that your child is controlling you. During this time, you will notice that your child is looking at your movements and trying to imitate your every move. Many times little ones never want to be separated from their parents.

Parents become exhausted with clinging toddlers. Sometime parents experience guilt, frustration and humiliation. You feel like taking a break from your child so that you can breathe. Yet, your toddler hates to see you go.

7 Ways Of Handling A Clinging Toddler:-

  • First of all, being a parent, you must understand that clinging behavior is normal. Becoming independent overnight is not at all possible. Your child feels connected to you. When you get separated from your child, he/she undergoes anxiety. This is very normal. Do not expect too much from your toddler. Let your toddler grow at their own pace. Remember that they are still babies in the eyes of the world.
  • Make sure that you give enough attention to your toddler. Be generous in giving hugs and kisses. Encourage your toddler. Express that you love them very much.
  • If you are planning to go out somewhere, make sure that your toddler is familiar with the person with whom they will be staying with.
  • Encourage your toddler to play with everyone. Let your child make their own friends. In their bedrooms, let children fill up their rooms with the toys and every other thing they like. Let your toddler spend time in their room with their friends.
  • Do not show your child that you’re stressed or worried when you are about to go out without them. Make sure to tell your toddler about the fun things you do when you come back. Leave them confidently and be positive.
  • Give a lot of hugs and kisses before you are leaving. Let them know that you will be back soon. Always say good-bye. Do not disappear without letting your toddler know. This will make them more anxious.
  • Enjoy your time with your toddler. As time goes by, children will gain more and more confidence, and not need you as they once did.. Spend quality time with your child. Someday, you will remember your toddlers clinging behavior, and wish for it back. Always remember to enjoy your little one.
