What Is Toxoplasmosis?

Toxoplasmosis is commonly known as toxoplasma gondii. It is a disease caused by a parasite. Children do not get sick if they get infected from this disease but they do get swollen glands and muscles ache.

Children such as infants and children younger than 5 years old are more prone to get infected by this disease. People with weak immune systems and women who are pregnant are also likely to get infected by this disease.

Symptoms Of Toxoplasmosis In Children:-

Sometimes it does not cause any symptoms. It passes from animals to humans. Children infected with this disease will depend on the childai??i??s age and childai??i??s weak immune system. There are 3 ways inAi?? which children get infected with toxoplasmosis:

Congenital Toxoplasmosis:Ai??In this, the child becomes infected before his/her birth. Due to this, they suffer from brain and nervous system abnormalities such as hearing loss, mental retardation and feeding difficulties

Toxoplasmosis: It may happen to healthy kids and also to pregnant women. There is no symptom of infection. Only swollen glands will usually appear in the neck and they will become tender to touch.

Toxoplasmosis:Ai??It can happen to those children who have a weak immune system. The symptoms include fever, headache and problems with vision, speech and movement

Other symptoms include:

  • Swollen glands
  • Anemia
  • Rash on the skin
  • Bleeding under the skin
  • Fever

Treatment Of Toxoplasmosis In Children:

  • There is no need to treat toxoplasmosis until and unless the child has a weak immune system or a woman is pregnant. The best thing to do is immediately consult your doctor.
  • Children experiencing congenital toxoplasmosis can be given anti- toxoplasmosis medication. It can be given until one year after the birth.
  • Children who have a weak immune system need to be hospitalized.


Preventing Toxoplasmosis In Children:-

  • If you have a cat at your home, make sure that you feed it meat which isAi?? cooked properly.
  • Make sure that you also eat food which is cooked properly. Avoid eating uncooked food

Call the Doctor:

  • If your child is already being treated for AIDS.
  • Your child has a weak immune system.
