Phonic sounds are very important in learning a language. For any language the phonic sounds are very important. The letters of a language are mostly dependent on the sounds. But in English the letters are not completely dependent on the sounds. Two or three letters together give us a particular sound. Therefore we have to learn the phonic sounds of the letters. In English language, each letter has more than two sounds, and sometimes the sound of the letter also depends upon the letter it is being associated with.
Phonic sounds help the children grasp the language much faster, and also will aid them in sounding out the word as well as decoding them. Reading and writing are the important aspects the children need to improve so as to connect with the language.
Teaching Phonic Sounds:
By following the ways which are mentioned below, you can teach your child phonics.
- Before you start find out what your child already knows and then start asking them simple questions about letter.
- Teach them the song of A-B-C, and then ask them to recognize the letter by showing alphabets flash cards.
- Make them play games which are related to phonics. Make them solve picture puzzles which contain letters and phonics.
- Slowly increase the difficulty for your child and ask him to point out letters by recognizing the sounds you make.
-
Make them play games now where they have to change aword into another. For example write a word saying CAT and then ask your child to change it to HAT. This will improve your childs writing skills.
- Once he has experted these exercises, explain to your child how two letters make one sound when there are coupled.
