Vitamin K is highly recommended in all the newborns to avoid bleeding due to deficiency of vitamins. Vitamin K is present in almost all the dairy products, vegetable oils and green vegetables. But consuming lot of vitamin K during pregnancy will not guarantee that the newborn will not suffer from Vitamin K deficiency.

The risk of vitamin K deficiency can be reduced if Vitamin K is injected within twelve hours of the birth, it seems sensible to inject one or two mg dose of Vitamin K. But at the same time injections are very painful and can cause bleeding at the injected spot. and these injections also hold a high risk of cancer.
Since these vitamins travel to fetus across placenta, it is advisable for all the mothers to consume high vitamin K foods. Most women prefer alfalfa tablets during pregnancy, as they are rich in Vitamin K.
Though FDA has not issued any license to use Vitamin K as a drug, oral administration drops are available. But it is always recommended to contact the medical supplier to know more about Vitamin K.
