Once your child gets to the preschool stage, You can make him comfortable in enjoying his independence. Preschoolers become capable of sharing and expressing many feelings, needs, and thoughts. They tend to make their own decisions, and they would like to sail faster and faster towards independence.
So to make him enjoy his freedom, you need to follow few things, such as:
- Do not stop him from choosing his own clothes, allow him to dress himself
- Be calm and patient, while your child tries different outfits. Wearing clothes of his kind of styles will make him happy.
- Getting your kid ready for potty-training is a difficult task, and making him learn on his own would be more challenging.
- The activities that you child practices at pre-school, such as washing before meals,cleaning up etc, should be applied at home also. Then he might learn the responsibilities quickly and easily.
- Give them homeworks like folding towels, helping with meal preparation and setting the table etc. This helps them in managing things at home by themselves.
- Make them rehearse the introduction part, like introducing himself or herself to their new friends.
While growing older and older, they will start developing organizational skills, some develop it by themselves and some are taught about it. This is the time when they follow their parents footsteps. However it is not a magic to happen overnight but is the talent that develops over a period of time.
Appreciate your kid, whenever he/she does something good. and you need to teach them what is good and what is bad.
As a parent or as a family you might limit or restrict your child from certain issues. But try go with your child’s choices wherever possible. You need to prepare him for an independent and healthy lifestyle ahead.
