Lonely kids are on the rise nowadays because of more video games, internet, academics and tight schedules. The present day conditions have a tendency to keep kids isolated and lonely. When kids are isolated, they lack social skills and miss good friendships. Hence, parents should take steps to make sure their children are not lonely.
According to researchers, loneliness can damage a child’s personality and stunt their communication skills. This will surely affect the professional life when the child grows. An isolated kid is more prone towards obesity, aggressiveness and undesirable behavior.
Reasons for Child Loneliness:
Here are a few reasons for loneliness among kids:
- Spending more time playing video games, watching television etc.
- Spending more time on the internet in activities such as chatting, browsing etc.
- Lack of involvement in group activities such as sports
- Tight schedules
- Much importance to academics rather than extra-curricular activities
Parents too, because of their busy schedules do not have time to spend with their kids. This can make them withdrawn and lonely

- Involve your kids in group activities such as sports, hobby clubs, playing with neighborhood children etc. In this way, they would be meeting kids
- Spend time with your children on a daily basis
- Make sure they get a chance to meet relatives, family friends
- Avoid excessive stress on academics, instead encourage extra-curricular activities
- Limit the time your children spend on television, internet etc.
Kids should have free time to socialize and play. Hence, if you find your kid aloof and isolated, make sure you take steps to tackle the problem of loneliness
