Poverty is a curse indeed. Children born in poor families are affected in many ways socially as well as health wise. Many underdeveloped as well as developing countries face acute Child poverty and are unable to provide the necessary infrastructure for the development of the child. Almost half of the world lives on $2.50 per day, while 80% of the population survives on less than $10 a day. How does poverty negate the emotional and physical growth of a child?

- Based on UNICEF statistics, 26,000-30,000 children die per day on account of poverty (updated September 03rd 2008.).
- About 27-28% of all the children belonging to developing countries are stunted or underweight. The maximum number are found in sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia.
- Judging by enrollment data, about 72 million children at primary school level were not in attending school in the developing countries in 2005.
- Children living in poverty suffered from infectious diseases.
- Worldwide about 2.2 million children die every year due to lack of immunization.
- Around 15 million children were orphaned due to HIV/AIDS
- Many suffer from malnutrition.
- High percentage of children lacked proper shelter

A healthy child is a must for proper development of a country. A neglected child can be a burden on society and family. The need of the hour is to ensure that adequate facilities in education and health are provided for the child and he or she is well- integrated into the family.
