Parents want their children to be successful in all spheres of life. It is a competitive world, and children have to be well –equipped to achieve success. How can parents ensure their success in whatever they do?
How a Child can be Successful?
- Trying something new: Children should be encouraged to try something new. In fact, they love doing so. This develops their sense of curiosity, to discover new things and they are confident in handling new tasks
- Adequate feedback: Parents need to communicate to children their successful achievements. Children may not be able to realize their success. Adequate feedback need to be given by parents. Appreciating them, hugging them, showering them with kisses indicates that they have done something that parents did not expect
- Rewards: Rewarding the child is essential. The child should feel that he or she has indeed achieved something remarkable. The parents need to celebrate it with full enthusiasm.
- Accepting failures: The child should realize that there are times when he or she may fail to achieve certain things. In order to be successful, he or she has to accept failures, work on them and then be successful again. Recognizing failures, rectifying them means that success is not too far
- Perseverance: The child should not give up. He or she should continue to reach his or her goal
- Accepting limitations: The child should be made aware of his or her limitations. They should also know what they are good at and what they are not
- Handling emotions: Parents should take care of the child’s feelings and emotions. If her or she wins, they must also share in the joy. In case the child loses, they should be able to explain to the child the reasons for failure and whether he or she can win again. They should deal with the child’s emotions very carefully, not hurting his or her sentiments
- Positive Social Relationships: The child should be encouraged to build up social relationships, which are positive. He or she should be told about the importance of having friends and other well-wishers. After all, they can give guidance and support when required
- Structured Home Environment : The home environment should be structured and ordered. The child should be made to realize that despite failures, life goes on. The structured home environment can be supportive and make the child feel more reassured
- Role model: The parent should be a role to the child. The child should be able to understand failure and success by observing their parents going through it. The parents should be an example themselves by handling their successes and failures in the right spirit
A child who hopes to achieve success will do well at school as well as in his or her personal life. Parents need to create a conducive atmosphere at home for the child to understand and appreciate what success is all about. Parents should share their successes and failures with their children, so that they appreciate that both are part of one’s life.
