Child talent is of much concern to parents. They would like to encourage a child who has much to contribute. The talent in child has to be tapped. The right environment has to be created for him or her to express freely. Talent is often inherent. It has to be brought into limelight.
Child talent characteristics can be judged on the basis of the performance of the child in academics, visual and performing arts. Most of the talented children excel in their fields. They are exceptionally bright as compared to other children. How does one know that a child is talented?

- Leadership qualities are evident in the child. He or she can rise above others
- Decision-making abilities are very focused. The child is capable of making the right decisions. His or judgment is good
- Self-confidence levels are high
- Spatial sense of relationship is excellent
- Memorization abilities are exceptionally good. The child performs well at school
- The child is able to express himself or herself well, through music, art and dance etc. motor coordination is good
- Skills of observation are very good
- Can process information in several complex ways
How To Develop Talent in A Child?
- Let the child share ideas
- Let the child undergo experiences that interest him or her
- Sufficient time should be provided for the child to daydream and think
- The child should be encouraged translate his or her ideas through stories, poems, collections, inventions
- Do not worry about the single-mindedness of the child
- Ask the child questions- as many as he or she would ask
- At school the teacher should be requested to allow the child to go through the curriculum at his or her own pace
- Coordinated efforts between school and parents is essential
- Improve the child’s ability to think independently
Talent in a child should be encouraged. Child talent has to be identified, nurtured and channelized. Parents need to seek the cooperation of the school authorities in ensuring that the talented child is not neglected in anyway. He or she should be encouraged to excel in his or her talents. Special attention should be given to the child so he or she remains spirited.
