Parents mean lot for a child. He or she loves spending time with them, playing, reading and listening to music. Parent centered activities are enjoyed by the child. Both, the father and mother need to take time out and spend it qualitatively with their child. A child without either of them suffers a lot. He or she misses out on a lot of things. Parents can shower a lot of affection on the child.
Divorces are on the rise. Also single parenthood is gaining ground. Many children grow up without their fathers. Is it good for them emotionally? After all, the father’s presence for the child is equally important as that of the mother. What problems does a single- parent child face?
Problems Faced By Fatherless Child
- Children of single-parent indulge in more sexual activity. They also involve in sexual activity much earlier
- Fatherless children are at higher risk of alcohol and drug abuse
- They have to cope with mental illness
- Suicide risk is prevalent among them
- Educationally also, they do not perform that well
- Problem of teenage pregnancy
- They are also prone to crime
- Those faced with child sexual abuse are mostly from single parental upbringing
- They suffer from psychological disorders. They are prone to depression
- Relationships are also not very successful
- They exhibit behavioral problems as well. They are more aggressive and violent
- Performance at school is also low. Few of them graduate from High school to college
A child who grows up with both the parents is healthier than a single-parent child. A single-parent child is a social deviant. He or she finds it difficult to cope up with life situations. He or she indulges in activities, which are anti-social. A fatherless child often gropes in the dark, lost in the dark alleys of drugs, crime and violence.
