A sharp memory is an asset to have. It is better to cultivate it as early as possible. A child with a good memory performs well at school. He or she has to remember facts, sums, formulas and concepts. Test performance would depend upon his or her memory. The ability to recall well would definitely mean better marks.
Memory has to be sharpened. There ways to do it. Try them out. How?
Tips to Sharpen Memory
- The child should understand the formula or concept, which is to be memorized. Understanding a subject is as good as remembering it. The child should be encouraged to ask questions in class to get more information about a subject
- The child can make a song or rhyme from the information acquired. It is easy to remember. Music can be very appealing. People like to remember something musical
- Help the child in his or her search for more information. One can consult stories, books, stories and videos, music and videos
- The first thing to be remembered longest should be studied first
- Encourage the child to develop mental images of the subject to be remembered. Let the child visualize the image. He or she can remember better
- Let the child make his or her own illustrations and examples of the subject to be memorized
- Teach the child a specific picture that represents the idea and concept
- Let the child explain the information to an adult. He or she will more clear about the concepts and will be able to memorize it better
- The text to be memorized should be read from the beginning to the end. Extra focus should be given to parts of the text, which are difficult to remember
- Play memory games
Parents should help their child to remember well. A bright child has a sharp memory. He or she can recall events and information fast and well. A bright child has much to gain both at school and in his or her personal life.
