Children often show a remarkable ability to imitate the adult and are able to do what the adult directs them to do. This is seen at home and in large number of preschool centres where children repeat rhymes and songs. Even when a mother is humming some song to herself the child learns to imitate. “Mummy says….”, and the child starts imitating exactly. This is mostly because the child is fully involved with his mother , finds interesting in all that she does around him and derives happiness from it. Inculcating good values start with the mother in daily life.
It could be likewise:
- “I want you to finish your home work while I am Away…” My mummy says… be trustworthy.
- “Look after your things and do work properly”. My Mummy says… Be responsible.
- “Sometimes what your friend or other people say irritate or annoy you, but you must understand and learn from small problems”. My mummy says…. be tolerant.
- “Sometimes other people need help, learn to give them love and understanding I’ll carry the bags for you Mum”. My Mummy says….be caring.
- “You have to go for your injection/ booster shot” My Mummy says be courageous.
- “Today the cake smells good can I have it? Wait till your friends come”. My mummy says… be patient.
- “Sometimes we get upset when we don’t get what we want.“ Hope you like my gift. Oh but I wanted a doll not a book”. My mummy says… be grateful.
- My mummy says.. she cannot be with me all times. I will have to decide what is right on my own. Mummy says.. have integrity.
- We share this world with all who live on this planet.. “water the plants, plant a tree” My mummy says… contribute.
- We must believe in God. “ I studied hard still did not do well” My mummy says.. have faith.
- “My grandmother got me a huge remote car, do you want to play with it” My mummy says… be humble.
