Teeth Grinding

Posted on December 16, 2007 in latest news

Like head banging or rolling, hair pulling or thunb sucking, teeth grinding is often a way some babies discharge tension. To minimize grinding reduce the tension in your babies life when possible., and be sure he has plenty of other outlets for releasing it- such as physical activities and toys that encourage banging. Lots of love and attention during that time can also decrease the need for teeth grinding by helping the baby unwind. In most cases, the habit is relinquished as the baby’s coping skills improve, and before an damage is done to the teeth.

Tension is not always the cause of teeth grinding. Sometimes the baby accidently discovers the mannerism when experimenting with his new teeth, enjoys the sensation and sound of it, and adds it to his growing repertoire of skills. But, before long, the thrill is gone and he loses interest in his dental orchestra.

If you find t hat your baby’s teeth grinding is becoming more frequent, rather than diminishing, and you are concerned that he might begin to do damage to his teeth, consult his doctor or dentist.

In order to better cope with teeth grinding you may try some relaxation techniques and see how you sleep afterwards; yoga and breathing exercises could be of real help. Don’t rush to administrate any drugs since teeth grinding could be dealt with otherwise too, and in far more natural ways. Have a look on the Internet, or talk to a therapist about the best ways to induce a relaxation state. Most people who have listened to soothing music, used aromatherapy or taken a long relaxing bath before going to bed, have shown significant improvement in the bruxism condition.
