How to get rid of your Child’s Fear

It is very common to be afraid of something or someone like the darkness the thunder or insects. Given below are some simple ways for you to handle such a situation.

First, you must understand that your child is not afraid rather he is just unsure of what is going to happen. Explain him/her why there is thunder, why does thunder sound loud? Then, change his fear to something that he is afraid of.

Another way to deal with this is start acting silly. When thunder comes start making funny noises and flap your hands in mid-air. Name it as a ‘thunder dance’, and whenever there is thunder again you will be surprised to see your child doing the same.

If your child is afraid of the darkness, then keep some illumine sticks with you. Start playing with these sticks in the dark. Allow your child also to play with them. Get them to explore the dark with a torch light. Let them know that it can be fun in the dark too.

Beware of what you teach your kids. You may involuntarily induce fear through your actions and words. Don’t tell them stories about ghosts in the dark or monsters. If you try to scare your child by telling such stories, be prepared to bring up a coward child.

Your child may be afraid of insects and animals too. To deal with this start telling him/her funny stories about animals and insects. Also take him/her to a zoo. Try to teach your child that like human beings, insects and animals are also a part of Mother Nature. They deserve love and care too.
