It has been proved that Parents have a greater influence on their child than anyone else. The reason being, they know their child better than anyone else and they are more interested to help their child to choose the right career. It is the duty of the parents to help your child in his career.
Here are few Tips on how you can help your child make right career decision.
- Identify your child’s interests, skills and values, talk to him about his likes and dislikes.
- Help your child gather information about his career interests.
- See to it that your child explores many different careers and then decides which one he would be interested.
- Help him to get work experience in the fields which he is interested.
- Ensure that your child considers a range of possible careers, help him choose which career would be best for him.
- Encourage your child to take up the career in which he has interest, for eg. if your child wants to become an athlete don’t force him to do law or medical. Respect his choice.
- Help your child to choose high school courses which will prepare him for his chosen field.
- Take your child to career fairs. This will give him a good exposure of different fields.
- Internship based learning can also help your child to understand his choices better
- Your child will not have a difficulty to choose his career if he has information about his career.
The most important thing that you can do for your child is to make him aware of different career options. Try not to force your child into a particular career because you want him to choose it, give him total freedom about his choice of career.
