According to experts calling a child Naughty can do long-term damage to him/her. This issue has been debated by various experts. There are some who believe that for the moralistic development of the child, it is necessary that the child is corrected, as and when required. Whereas some believe that Shouting at the child will cause mental trauma to the child.
A childcare expert controversially claimed that parents should not call their youngsters ‘naughty’ because it damages their self-confidence.
It is said that misusing the word can affect the “mental health” of both the child and the subsequently guilt-ridden parent.
Sometimes children portray behavior that is unacceptable and undesirable. At such times calling the child naughty puts the parents and child in a really different frame set. It’s a very different message and very bad for a child’s self confidence and self esteem. This can reinforce negative feelings and lead to more bad behavior.
According to researchers and experts children do not quickly forget being shouted at; it is an experience that “really goes deep”. Instead parents should say: “What you have done is very naughty, I don’t like the way you behaved” but not that ‘you are naughty’
Parents should realize why their children are misbehaving. The reason and cause of such behavior should be analyzed. They should give their youngsters a “choice and a consequence” instead of shouting.
